Your Mother started as a group of friends who grew up playing games together. We never stopped. Our numbers have
grown through marriages, friendships, co-workers and more. More of us join, but never quite leave. While a lot of
our community has grown through World of Warcraft, it's having a (mostly) welcoming place to share new experiences
that keeps us growing.
Why "Your Mother"?
Because why not? Seriously though, none of us is quite sure.
Some of us think it was a reference to Egon's outburst.
That's possibly not entirely un-true.
A mostly agreed-upon series of events which lead to our name is as follows:
Ghostbusters was a (great) movie.
Some other stuff.
World of Warcraft came out.
Some of us started playing it.
Some even joined a guild.
Eventually, those who were playing, quit.
The Burning Crusade launched.
Most of us resumed or started playing.
The "old" guild was too busy with progression for the noobs.
But it was ok since we were filthy casuals. We started our own guild, Your Mother.
Eventually, the other guild faded and we brought evryone back into the fold.
Warhammer: Age of Reckoning launched.
Most of us started playing. While also still playing WoW.
Your Mother found a home fighting on the side of Order.
But alas, the days of Warhammer ended, but will never be forgotten.
The Wrath of the Lich King launched.
Most of us continued playing.
Then most of us quit due to MMO fatigue.
The survivors fought relentless angainst waves of the undead. Twice
We all returned in force for The Cataclysm
All of us, and more, rejoined.
But the cataclysm was short.
Sanctuary was saved by the heroes of the Your Mother clan.
Your Mother subdued the The Old Republic for the glory of the Emperor.
Your Mother straddled the reborn lands of Eorzea.
The Mists of Pandaria called us back.
Despite changing servers, Your Mother was reborn.
We've forged an alliance with another guild with lasting friendships to this day.
We've invaded Draenor to confront the Warlords
The fall of Ubersreik was hard fought. Most of the time.
All of the above may or may not be related.
The cycle continues.
Wait, that didn't explain anything!?
And that's not a question. But to get back on track, what was mentioned is roughly when and why Your Mother
started. As new games come and go, it's likely we'll be there with bells on.
Additional (relevant) info you may not know, is that Barrens chat was a fun and/or terrifying place back when you
had to walk across it. There were Your Mother jokes aplenty, as well as other conversations (using the term
conversation lightly). That said, it's been suggested that Your Mother came from the bevy of jokes we'd pass
around internally. Or that it was chosen to mock those in Barren Chat. Or that it was done tongue in cheek to see
if Blizzard would allow it. Or this is all lies and calumny.
The point is, none of us is entirely sure where it came from. And none of us really care. We're just happy to be
in Your Mother.
